the Wheel of Time Travelling Route's

This blogg post is in english. The rest of my blog is in swedish but this post has a world wide audience. (To the extent someone finds their way here.)

The creation of the Wheel of Time Traveling Routes was inspired by Karen Wynn Fonstad's The Atlas of Middle Earth there she (among a lot of other details) included a map of Frodo's journey.

My project for Wheel of Time wasn't ever intended to be as ambitious as Karens (later I also learned about Barbara Strachey who also made a similar map). My intention was to make a map there I could see the actual route on the map the most important characters in the book took.

And this is the result of that work. I decided to put the routes on top of the official maps in the books made by Ellisa Mitchell. The original map are copyrighted to her and Tor books. The only difference is that I have made a little fix of Tar Valon so it is now on an Island.

Below is a list with all the books with release date, time period of each book except New Spring. (Year as of Wheel of Time but month as real world. Sorry for not using WoT calendar). Finally a few words about the events in the book.

2018 I began to make updates the especially the first routes that didn't had any direction arrows and numbers to the routes. I also liked to fix some errors and updates of unknown locations that was revealed in later books. The numbering of the routes in each book is as they appear in the books. Actual timeline can vary a little from this. The over everything best timeline made of the WoT books is the Seven Spokes Wheel of Time Chronolgy.
Dashed lines are routes made by waygates. Dashed lines that doesen't have and end is normal travelling but to or from another book.

All the route's are stored here or click on any of the book titles.

New Spring, (2004 Jan)

The first book of the pre-history of the Wheel of Time trilogy. (Longer version of the first New Spring that was released in Legends). Any further books of the pre-history was never released.

Two storylines - the first about Moirane and Siuan as Accepted in the Tower and the second about Lan.

The Eye of the World, (1990 Jan)
mars-jun 998.

The first book in the series. Later split into two separate books. From the Two Rivers (with a new Prologue) and To the Blight. The same was made to (some?) of the other books as well.

The beginning and to the Eye of the World.

The Great Hunt, (1990 Nov)
jun-oct 998

To Falme.
Encounter with the Seanchan

The Dragon Reborn, (1991 Sep)
mar-may 999

To The Stone of Tear

The Shadow Rising, (1992 Oct)
jun 999

To Rhuidean
Attack on Two Rivers

Position of Chaendar Mountain and Ruhidean updated.

The Fires of Heaven, (1993 Oct)

jul-sep 999

Rand and Avihenda did it.
Lanfear and Moirane.
Birgitte

Lord of Chaos, (1994 Oct)
oct 999 - jan 1000

Dumais Wells

This route was extremely complicated and has been heavily updated and corrected in the update made 2018.

A Crown of Swords, (1996 Jun).
jan 1000

Rand in Illian.

The location of the Saldaen army north of Caemlyn is only a guess. This was also solved in Knife of dreams but I have not updated this map either.

The Path of Daggers, (1998 Nov)
jan-feb 1000

Calandor against the Seanchan

Winter's Heart, (2000 Nov)
feb-mars 1000

The Choedan Kal

Crossroads of Twilight, (2003 Jan)
mars 1000

Hunting for Faile, plottings in Caemlyn.

Location of Malden and So Habor is a guess. Again, the Knife of dreams gives a more precise location and again I have not made an update of the map.

Knife of Dreams, (2005, 11 Oct)
april 1000

(About release date: Fantask in Copenhagen released it in advance a few days until 15 Sept before Tor made them remove it.)

This route was difficult. Several places that I can not say the exact location of.

I definitely liked this one. "Prince of the Ravens" and Nyneave helping Lan made me weep. This is really a book of solutions and so also Robert Jordan stated with "I think it will have enough incident to satisfy anyone, certainly."

The Gathering Storm, (2009 Oct)
May 1000

I really want to thank Brandon Sandersson for not maiking a short end into one book. I never belived that this could be the final book but now we got three and I think it is good.

Brandon Sanderson have done a great job. There are just a few places there it is a little obvious that it is not Jordan anymore. About 1/4 into the book, there are a sequence that I should say is Brandon being a fan and writing just some of the favourite stuff. Things we already know but could enjoy a little extra. When there are a sentence that I actually have forgot right know but it is repeated three times in the book. Nothing important at all but Jordan wouldn't have done such a simple mistake. Finally I think Brandon should have mentioned Elaidas dream of that the tower will be great "under her". Well, it did, but I think Jordan would let have Elaida think about it at the time she got captured.

Towers of Midnight (2010 Nov)

Much the same time period as the previous book but not the same locations.

Unfortunateley I have never made any route of this book and probably never will. All this jumping around makes routes less interesting.

A Memory of Light (2013 Jan)
Finaly, the END

I have never made any route of this book either.

I think the series would have deserved something better. There are some of Brandon Sandersons ideas that I do not like. But after re-reading it a few years later with much less expectations I was finally satisfied!
